Coccidiostatic agent
ATC vet code:
QP51BX52 – Amprolium, combinations
Pharmacological action:
Amprolium hydrochloride is a coccidiostatic agent that is active against protozoa of the order Eimeria, especially against Eimeria tenella, Eimeria acervulina and Eimeria necatrix. Sulfaquinoxaline is a chemotherapeutic agent that has a bacteriostatic effect on many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and also has a coccidiostatic effect on protozoa of the order Eimeria (Eimeria acervulina, Eimeria necatrix, Eimeria maxima, Eimeria brunetti). Vitamin K3 helps reduce bleeding in the small intestine and cecum.
The coccidiostatic effect of amprolium hydrochloride is due to its chemical structural similarity with thiamine (vitamin B1), which is essential for the viability of coccidia. Since amprolium hydrochloride has better penetration than thiamine, it easily penetrates the parasite cell and takes an important place in its metabolism, resulting in a violation of carbohydrate metabolism and the death of coccidia.
The structure of the cell membrane of the intestinal mucosa of poultry and animals is almost impermeable to amprolium hydrochloride, which makes the drug non-toxic when used in therapeutic doses. The main part of amprolium hydrochloride (up to 97%) is excreted from the body with feces.
The drug is compatible with vitamins and food additives used in poultry and livestock.
Indications:
Amprolium is used for the treatment of all types of coccidiosis: in calves, sheep, goats and poultry, and for prophylactic purposes in poultry.
