Pharmacological action
The active components (sulfamethoxazole, trimethoprim) included in the composition of "Atavet" are characterized by a strong antibacterial effect, both against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.
Sulfamethoxazole is a broad-spectrum sulfanilamide substance. It has a bacteriostatic effect against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli., Pasteurella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Corynebacterium spp., Klebsiella spp., Prusus, spp., Proteus, spp. and rickettsia). The mechanism of action is associated with competitive inhibition of PABA and dihydropyrophosphate synthase, which leads to blocking the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines.
Trimethoprim is characterized by bacteriostatic action against gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp., etc.) and against gram-negative microorganisms (Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Pasteurelia spp., Bordetella spp., Etc.). It inhibits bacterial reductase, which converts dehydrofolic acid to tetrahydrofolic acid, which is necessary for the synthesis of purines and nucleic acids. It also enhances the antimicrobial effect of sulfamethoxazole, which ultimately leads to inhibition of the growth and reproduction of microorganisms.
Pharmacokinetics
When taken orally, the drug is rapidly absorbed and penetrates all organs and tissues. The maximum antibacterial concentration in the blood is observed 3 to 4 hours after taking the drug and is maintained at a therapeutic level for 12 hours. It is excreted mainly in the urine.
Indications
“Atavet” is used against microorganisms sensitive to sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. In diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract, digestive tract, genitourinary organs, secondary infections in viral diseases, infectious diseases of the skin. "Atavet" is effective in diarrhea, colisepticemia, streptococcal polyarthritis, pneumonia, abscess, colibacteriosis, atrophic rhinitis, salmonellosis, pasteurellosis, hemophilic pleuropneumonia, scarlet fever, staphylococcus in calves, sheep, goats, pigs and domestic poultry.
Method of administration and dosage:
The drug is administered orally to the target species
Sheep, goats, calves - 1 g of the drug per 20 kg of live weight twice a day for 4 - 6 days.
Domestic poultry, pigs - 1 g of the drug is dissolved in 1.5 - 2 l of drinking water. Duration of treatment is 4 - 6 days.
The drug is not used in egg-laying birds, dairy and pregnant animals.
A fresh aqueous solution of the drug should be prepared every day.
Before mass treatment, the drug is pre-tested in small groups of animals of each species. In case of complications, the use of the drug should be discontinued for this species.
Side effects
In some cases or in case of violation of the dosage regimen, allergic reactions may occur.
Contraindications
The drug is not used in laying birds, lactating and pregnant animals.
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, impaired renal and hepatic function.
In case of increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the active components of the drug and/or the appearance of allergic reactions, its use is discontinued.
