Pharmacological action and pharmacokinetics
The drug belongs to the anthelmintic. The pronounced effect is characteristic of adult and immature helminths, causes muscle paralysis of nematodes and disrupts the function of their nervous and muscular systems. The degree of dehelminthization when using the drug is 95%, and with repeated use - 100%.
The drug is rapidly adsorbed (absorbed) into the tissues and biological fluids of the animal's body, is well distributed, creating a high concentration in the blood plasma. As for the excretion of the drug, it is mainly produced by the kidneys with urine.
Indications
Piperazine is used for the treatment of ascariasis, paraascariasis, neascariasis, heteroacidosis, echinuriasis and toxocariasis in the following animals and birds: cattle, including calves, goats, pigs, horses, dogs, cats, quail, geese, chickens, ducks.

Contraindications
The use of piperazine is prohibited in animals with chronic liver and kidney diseases, and also in cases of impaired gastrointestinal motility.
Side effects
The use of piperazine in therapeutic doses is not characterized by side effects, it is easily tolerated by all the above-mentioned animals and birds. However, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors may rarely occur.
Overdose
11.4 g/kg is the lethal dose of piperazine. Overdose in cats and dogs after 24 hours can cause the following signs of intoxication: vomiting, weakness, respiratory failure, tremor of the hind limbs, hypersalivation, dehydration, decreased vision. In case of overdose, it is necessary to carry out anti-intoxication measures, the use of charcoal or other enterosorbents is recommended.
