Penstrep 400 LA
Interchemie, Netherlands
Injectable antibiotic for parenteral administration
Product name:
Penstrep-400 LA (PENSTREP-400 LA)
Description:
Injection suspension, 100 ml.
Qualitative and quantitative composition per 1 gram:
Procaine Penicillin G................................................... ................................................ .100,000 UI.
Benzathine Penicillin G................................................... ................................................100,000 UI.
Dihydrostreptomycin sulfate................................................... ...................................200 mg.
Pharmacological properties:
When penicillin G and dihydrostreptomycin are combined, their effects are combined, and in some cases they act synergistically. Procaine and benzathine penicillin G are narrow-spectrum penicillins characterized by bactericidal activity against such gram-positive bacteria as Campylobacter spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp., Erysipelothrix spp., Haemophilus spp., Listeria spp., Pateurella spp., penicillinase-negative Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp.
Target species:
Cattle, calves, sheep, goats and pigs.
Indications:
Arthritis, mastitis, gastrointestinal tract, respiratory and urinary tract infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to penicillin and dihydrostreptomycin, such as Campylobacter spp., Clostridium spp., Corynebacterium spp., E.coli, Erysipelothrix spp., Haemophilus spp., Klebsiella spp., Listeria spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp. In cattle, calves, sheep, goats and pigs.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to penicillin, procaine and/or aminoglycosides. In animals with severe renal failure. Simultaneous administration of tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, macrolides and lincosamides.
Side effects:
Decreased immune response was observed in pigs at extremely high doses (160,000 IU benzylpenicillin/kg body weight). Administration of therapeutic doses of procainpenicillin G can cause fetal distress in pigs. Hypersensitivity reactions are the most common side effects of procaine-penicillin drugs.
Special precautions when using the drug:
The use of the product should be based on a sensitivity test of bacteria taken from the animal. If this is not possible, treatment should be based on local epidemiological information. Do not use with other antimicrobial agents to avoid reduction of effect. Do not use in animals with severe renal impairment. Do not exceed the recommended dose and duration of treatment.
Use during pregnancy and lactation:
Procaine and penicillin preparations can sometimes cause abortion in macaque pigs.
Interaction:
Benzylpenicillin should not be used with bacteriostatic chemotherapeutic agents because of the possible antagonism of these drugs to the bactericidal action of benzylpenicillin.

For intramuscular use.
